Autistic Services on WNED's 970 AM
with Jay Moran
Veronica Federiconi, Executive Director for Autistic Services of WNY, was a special guest with WNED's Jay Moran on April 29th, 2008. The spot, which aired twice at prime morning hours, focused on talks about Autism and the strides made in getting the word out about the many capabilities of people with Autism. To prove the many talents of Individuals with Autism Jay Moran's interview included a special 30 second snippet from the Neil Sanders Show. Considering that Neil's show is only four weeks old, we'd say the word about his show is already getting around. To listen to the spot on the WNED Website Click Here

Body Sox: It may just be that only those in the "sensory integration therapy world" know about the awesome benefits of these lycra sensory delights. They are pretty strange looking, but very therapeutic! The see-through lycra/spandex "body sock" is a movement, proprioceptive, tactile, and deep pressure experience like no other. Perhaps you are wondering what to do with this "odd" looking thing. Oh, that's easy... just climb in, zip it up, and watch your body make shapes you never thought possible (among other uses). Because Body Sox are see-through (and breathable by the way), you can have the child do a variety of things with the Body Sox. Besides being FUN, Body Sox sparks creativity and imagination while providing therapeutic benefits. Body Sox will help children with sensory processing disorders to work on "position in space" skills. They must kinesthetically feel what their bodies are doing and how they are coordinating their body movements. Watching themselves in a mirror, or creating shadows, will help them develop this proprioceptive sense, which is often dysfunctional in children with sensory integration dysfunction / sensory processing disorders . The unique proprioceptive and tactile input children (or adults) experience with the Body Sox is unparalleled! Any child with sensory processing disorders / sensory integration dysfunction can benefit!
Social Skills Picture Book for High School and Beyond
In 2001, Dr. Baker wrote The Social Skills Picture Book, designed for young children with social communication challenges. Now, in response to the deluge of requests from parents with children in their teens, here is Dr. Baker's long-awaited book, specifically geared toward older students. The Social Skills Picture Book for High School and Beyond offers a visual learning format. Photos of actual students engaging in a wide variety of social situations show, rather than tell, the right (and wrong) ways to interact in different circumstances. They visually illustrate the positive and negative consequences of both ways of interacting. The book also offers instructions for students & families to create their own social skills booklets. The social skills address real-life situations that are important to teens, such as: making new friends, asking someone out on a date, doing difficult schoolwork, interviewing for a job, and much, much more!

Neil will be recording every Monday. Trust us, you won't find a more off-beat and colorful man of the hour. See you on Monday.
